WHARC in Partnership with UNFPA Organised A-2 days training for Health Care Workers/Social Workers in project communities, which held at the Dr. Natalia Kanem Event Hall, KM 11, Benin-Lagos Expressway, Igue-Iheya, Benin City, Edo State, from Tuesday 14th – Wednesday 15th June, 2022. Healthcare workers and community social workers from Igue-Iheya, Okpekpe, Ewatto and Irrua were present. Pertinent topics revolving around ways to improve services being provided by the Primary Health Centre’s (PHCs) in their communities, Understanding Key Sexual and Reproductive Health and Right (SRHR) Issues in Project communities, working with communities in the role of health education and advocacy and Gender-Based Violence (GBV).
Dr. Wilson Imongan delivered the lectures on topics titled: Understanding Key SRHR Issues in Project communities and working with communities in the role of health education and advocacy. He highlighted components of reproductive health which include but are not limited to family planning, adolescent reproductive health, maternal health, safe abortion, GBV and harmful traditional practice. In his presentation, he emphasized the rights to exercise freedom in reproductive health decisions, in SRHR, women have rights of access to receive information and services and the right to express this freedom of reproductive choices. He enlightened participants that community and members of community play key role in the growth of PHCs. They should see PHCs as their own and therefore be spurred to protect it and ensure its sustenance.
The two days training session officially came to a close with the distribution of IEC materials to participants, which will be distributed in their various communities.
