WHARC TO MAKE SEXUAL AND REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH INFORMATION ACCESSIBLE ON MOBILE PHONE
The Women’s Health and Action Research Centre (WHARC) has received a small grant from Ipas to implement a project titled “Accessing Reproductive Health services with the click of a Phone”. The aim of the project is to increase the access of young people to quality sexual and reproductive health information and services including family planning, safe abortion and post-abortion care in Nigeria. The reproductive Health App to be produced will be downloadable on mobile phones of various operating systems.
The project will also promote awareness of the mobile app among relevant stakeholders in order to engender its use for accessing reproductive health information and services. The app already has up to 100 questions and answers on reproductive health that can be accessed through download into android phones. It also contains a live chat which allows the user to interact and receive feedback on sexual and reproductive health issues from a competent health provider. Additional 100 questions and answers on safe abortion and family planning services will be added through this project, which will provide essential information on critical concerns relating to family planning and safe abortion care for women and youth. In particular, the App will provide information on where confidential and women and youth-friendly services in the private or public sector can be obtained by women and youth throughout the country
The project which commenced November 2014 will last for a period of one year.
