Emomine Odjesa has a PhD in Health Economics from the African Centre of Excellence in Reproductive Health Innovation (CERHI), University of Benin, Benin City, Edo State Nigeria, where she is currently employed as a research scientist. She is also currently a reviewer for the African Journal of Reproductive Health (AJRH), a journal published by the Women’s Health and Action Research Centre (WHARC). Her research field is in sexual and reproductive health care in Nigeria and in sub-Saharan Africa, especially in family planning, maternal and child health care. Within this field, her research interest is in understanding the socio-economic determinates of reproductive health outcomes at the individual level and beyond to include the household level, community level, state level, and the policy level; which in essence leads to understanding of demand and supply-side determinates of health outcomes that concurrently occur within a society. This research interest is fuelled by the recognition of the fact that health outcomes, including sexual and reproductive health outcomes, are contextual in nature, with the associating determinants operating at the different levels of the society. The goal is therefore to use the empirical findings from her research works in the formation of effective policies and interventions/strategies addressing these different associating determinants that simultaneously operating at the different levels of the society. Thus, sexual and reproductive health issues in Nigeria and sub-Sharan Africa are holistically assessed and addressed using a multifaceted approach, culminating in the much-needed improvement in health outcomes within the specified regions of the world. In meeting her research interest, she carries out both quantitative studies, using primary and secondary data such as the Demographic and Health Survey, and qualitative studies, including phenomenological studies, using focused-group discussions and in-depth interviews.
