Dr. Rose Ashinedu Ugiagbe

Dr. Rose Ashinedu Ugiagbe obtained her basic medical degree from the University of Benin Medical School in the year 2000. She had her residency training at the University of Benin Teaching hospital, and obtained a Fellowship of the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria in the Faculty of Internal Medicine, with Sub-specialization in Gastroenterology and Hepatology, in 2010. She was awarded the prestigious Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree by the National Postgraduate medical College of Nigeria in 2022 and obtained the Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in clinical oncology in 2024. She is a certified Medical Simulation Facilitator by the Boston Children’s Hospital global health program in collaboration with Centre for Excellence in Reproductive Health Initiative (CERHI). She is presently an Associate Professor of Medicine with the University of Benin and Honorary Consultant with the University of Benin Teaching hospital. She is the current Head of Department of Family Medicine, University of Benin and Director of Research, Centre of Excellence in Reproductive Health Initiative (CERHI), University of Benin. She is the Scientific Director of the African H. pylori Registry. She has served as both internal and external examiner in Medical Students training and an examiner with the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria. Her clinical and research interests are in liver, gastrointestinal and tropical diseases as well as oncology. She has several publications in peer reviewed local and international journals. She has served as a reviewer of many Journal articles as well as supervised several postgraduate dissertations. At University of Benin Teaching Hospital, she was the principal investigator of the international randomized controlled HALT-IT Trial and has been involved in several other collaborative studies. She is the Treasurer of Society for Gastroenterology and Hepatology in Nigeria (SOGHIN and a member of the reviewers’ committee of SOGHIN for Hepatitis Management Guidelines (2021), She is also a board member and Treasurer of the African Helicobacter and Microbiota study group and Financial Secretary of Medical and Dental Consultant Association of Nigeria, University of Benin Teaching Hospital. She is also a member of other professional bodies including Nigerian Medical Association, Medical Women’s Association of Nigeria and American Gastroenterological Association.
